Seattle University Graduate programs

Seattle University College of Education and the School of Teaching ESL have created a cooperative agreement that gives students many choices regarding continuing professional development in the teaching of English to speakers of other languages.

Up to twelve credits earned at S-TESL can be used in graduate programs at Seattle University College of Education. Contact the Seattle University College of Education for Graduate Admissions information.

Seattle University Degree Programs and Post-Master’s Certificate in TESOL

Master's degree in Teaching English To Speakers of Other Languages

is designed for those who wish to teach English as a second or foreign language. This degree may be used in adult education settings, or in the elementary or secondary setting with a teaching certificate. The degree provides in-depth preparation in practical and theoretical foundations in second language acquisition. A maximum of 12 credits from the School of Teaching ESL may be applied to the M.Ed. degree and 12 credits from the School of Teaching ESL may be applied to the M.A. degree.

Master's degree in Adult Education and Training

is designed for those who wish to teach adult learners in adult basic education, English as a second language, or training and development programs. The degree provides a broad orientation to adult education, learning in adulthood, course design and instruction. A maximum of 12 credits from The School of Teaching ESL may be applied to this degree.

Master's in Teaching

is designed for those who wish to teach in elementary or secondary schools. This full-time program meets state teacher certification requirements. A maximum of three credits from the School of Teaching ESL may be applied to this degree. Special application deadlines apply.

Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction

is designed for those with a baccalaureate degree in education or a teaching certificate. This degree provides continuing professional education for teachers, curriculum directors, department chairs and other education professionals. A maximum of 12 credits from the School of Teaching ESL may be applied to this degree.

Post-Master's Certificate in TESOL

is designed for those with a master's degree in a subject other than TESOL. This post-master's program provides a specialized preparation in teaching English as a second or foreign language. From three to nine credits from the School of Teaching ESL are a part of this certificate. At least 15 credits must be regular, 500-level, Seattle University courses.
